Dead Souls Daily showing a Lermontov quote from A Hero of Our Time in English translation
The same Lermontov quote in the original Russian, cited to A Hero of Our Time, Princess Mary

One thought. Every day. In the original.

Tap the quote and the translation gives way to the words the author actually wrote: Tolstoy’s, Dostoevsky’s, Chekhov’s. Every quote in the collection has its Russian, and the source now gives the part and chapter, or the story by name, rather than the title alone. Both belong to Unlock the Archive. The daily quote, and your saved collection however far it runs, stay free forever.

Every morning, the wellness internet hands you a sunrise and tells you to seize the day. We hand you one sentence from a Russian who knew better.

New in version 1.4

Your daily quote, always visible.

The sentence you’d rather not read, now impossible to avoid. Add Dead Souls Daily to your Home Screen and the day’s despair is waiting the moment you reach for your phone. Tap the star and the quote is filed away without the app opening at all, which costs nothing. The widget can show today’s quote, your Saved Sorrows, or a blend of the two. Choosing between them belongs to Unlock the Archive.

One of my favourites
A must for Russian literature fans! It’s such a witty and unique idea. Also nice that they don’t charge you like most apps these days. I love my daily dose of misery, thank you.
